The Allegheny Student Government recognized two new clubs, outlined election debate procedures, and announced that its general fund is now depleted, at its General Assembly on Tuesday, March 24.
Cabinet Reports
Neither Director of Treasury Nick Banez, ’26, nor Director of Finance Dominic Juliana, ’26, were present at the GA, so ASG President Chezka Quinola, ’27, delivered their reports on their behalf.
In the meeting minutes, Juliana said the college reduced ASG’s budget by almost 50% this year. Because of that, the general fund — which supports standard club requests like event supplies and consistent expenses — has been depleted for the year. Going forward, Juliana said ASG will fund finance requests using the surplus fund, which is typically used for one-time club investments like equipment and uniforms.
“What this means for clubs is that their finance requests may be ‘scrutinized’ more harshly than before,” Juliana wrote.
Banez, in his report, added that the amount of money that will be approved for budget requests will be lower for the remainder of the year.
ASG Vice President Douglas Malcolm, ’26, further explained the changes to The Campus after the GA.
“It just means that some clubs are going to not receive 100% of the funding that they request for different activities and et cetera,” Malcolm said. “We have a significantly smaller budget than last year for this year, and so our general (fund) has gone faster than expected. But we’re still — we have plenty of money to fund things. It’s just large things — the Finance Committee will have to be stricter on larger events and things of that nature, so that there is no chance that we do run out of money. There is a 99.9% chance that we will not, but just also so that we can fund the capital project at the end there.”
At the GA on March 17, Quinola said the estimated cost of the disc golf course is between $40,000 and $45,000 and that a trustee of the college had expressed interest to her in providing partial funding.
The reported expenditures for the past week, all drawn from the general fund, totaled $7,564.99. Of expenditures for the week, the largest were $4,862 to fund an African Student Association event, $1,300 for an International Club Trip and $365 for Aikido Club’s membership fees.
Director of Diversity and Inclusion Hailey Herring, ’26, announced her committee will be hosting an open mic event on Saturday, March 28, from 1 to 2 p.m. in Grounds for Change. (Herring is also a member of The Campus staff and was not involved in the production of this story.)
Co-Directors of Student Affairs Iris Styers, ’26, and Lyra Lindsay, ’27, issued a reminder that sexual health products like condoms in the Henderson Campus Center are free to take.
“I’ve been seeing some scary stuff on Yik Yak recently,” Styers said.
Recent conversations on Yik Yak have included rumors of sexually transmitted diseases spreading on campus.
Director of Organizational Development Brayden Devinney, ’26, announced that the student leader’s transition seminar will tentatively be held in the Tippie Alumni Center at 7 p.m. on April 23. He added that the creation of a student leader’s handbook has been delayed to the start of next fall.
Attorney General Anna Kohler, ’26, announced that the final day an organization can submit materials to be recognized by ASG this academic year is 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1.

Class of 2026 Vice President Josephine Reiter reported further progress with planning Senior Week. Reiter said that seniors who did not sign up to receive a senior shirt but would like one should contact the class senate.
Class of 2027 President Kirandeep Khroud announced several upcoming events as part of Junior Appreciation Week. There will be a GFC open tab featuring wellness bags on Monday, March 30, from 5 to 6 p.m; bingo on Wednesday, April 1, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in room 301/302 of the campus center; and carnival games on Thursday, April 2, in room 301/302 of the campus center.
Class of 2029 President Niki Hineman reported the class is planning a mocktail event with GFC and is in conversation with Parkhurst for support. Hineman said the class hopes to hold the event around the Springfest timeframe.
Executive Reports
Malcolm reported that he has been in discussion with Dean for Student Life & Title IX Advisor Trae Yeckley, who is also the ASG advisor, about making changes to the responsibilities of the director of communications role to ensure that progress with athletics marketing to update the student body with events and awards news continues into the next academic year.
Quinola reported that she set a time to meet with Allegheny President Ron Cole, ’87, to discuss ongoing and future projects.

Clean Slate Gators is an Allegheny offshoot of Crawford County Clean Slate, a nonprofit that helps formerly incarcerated individuals with sealing and expunging criminal records and seeking pardons from the governor.
Conceptual Research Club also unanimously passed its second round of voting, with one abstention from Devika Desai, ’26.
