The Allegheny Student Government met Tuesday, April 21, to swear in the new class, confirm the new president and end business for the year.
Director of Finance Dominic Juliana, ’26, reported this Friday, April 24, meeting of the Finance Committee will be the final meeting, as the form for club and organization requests will close during the week.
Clubs that need to handle financial reimbursements will be directed to Calie Biase of Allegheny College financial services going into the summer. The budget of weekly approvals was $3,733.19, with $2,506 being distributed for several Outing Club events and equipment purchases.
Director of Community Relations Aubrey Carion, ’27, announced that in cooperation with Parkhurst, a retirement party for Yvonne Longstreth’s retirement will be held from 11 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 24.
Attorney General Anna Kohler, ’26, announced the results of elections for senate positions. 12 seats will need to be filled at the start of the fall semester, three to represent the class of 2027, two for 2028 and 2029, respectively, and a full set of five senators for the incoming freshman class of 2030.
Chief of Staff Kenzie Hughes, ’26, led the report of college committees, with Student Enrichment Committee leader and ASG Director of Organizational Development Brayden Devinney, ’26, reporting several changes being proposed or underway: motor pool policy changes will be discussed at the start of next year, the external speakers policy is in final review and the student life and campus climate surveys were discussed. Action points to lead off next year identified, with food access and improvements to Winslow Health Center as primary takeaways. Separately, Hughes also reported the Springest concert was sold out, with an attendance rate of 90% for ticketholders, making the event a success for ASG.
Class of 2026 President Sydni Junker announced final coordination with Parkhurst for Senior Week is being nailed down, and ticket sales and shirt giveaways will begin at the end of the week of April 27.
ASG President-Elect Ella DeRose, ’27, and Vice President-Elect, Kylie Thompson, ’27, announced that the only cabinet position that was not filled before the General Assembly is the positions for directors of sustainability and environmental affairs. The new executives will be meeting with the Chief Financial Officer Debra L. Fitzsimons to discuss ASG budgets and finance before the start of the fall semester.
President Chezka Quinola, ’27, reported the final steps in the semester, such as submitting a final report to the Board of Trustees and looking to ensure progress on a TV installation in Grounds for Change, similar to the device currently installed in McKinley’s Food Court.
Following reports of the cabinet, ASG began the process of swearing in the new cabinet. DeRose and Thompson were sworn in to the office following the appropriate oath of office.
Cabinet members of the new administration were approved as follows: Lyra Lindsay, ’27, for chief of staff, unanimously approved. Mary Evans, ’27, for attorney general, with one abstention. Daniel Servey, ’29, as director of finance with one abstention. Anna Turhan, ’27, as director of treasury unanimously. Bella Wilson, ’28, and Brandon Thompson, ’29, as co-directors of student affairs, both unanimously. Julia Perillo, ’27, as the director of communication and press was approved unanimously. Anotidaishe Chinogureyi, ’29, for director of diversity and inclusion unanimously. Aicha Foster, ’29, was elected as director of community relations with one abstention. Finally, Simone Greene, ’28, was elected director of organizational development unanimously.
“I am deeply proud of Allegheny Student Government,” President Ron Cole, ’87, said after the swearing in of the next year’s cabinet was complete, “and I am super excited for the next academic year, with the incoming officers and the entire Senate. We have a hundred years celebration next year that we need to dig into.”
