Clean Slate Gators and the Conceptual Research Club each passed their first rounds of voting, and the Allegheny Student Government presidential election cycle was slightly amended at ASG’s General Assembly on Tuesday, March 17.
Cabinet Reports
Director of Treasury Nick Banez, ’26, reported for the Finance Committee and said the week’s expenditures totaled $4,675.58 across 14 budget requests, with the largest amount of $1,382.85 allocated to Hillel for an event.
Co-Directors of Student Affairs Iris Styers, ’26, and Lyra Lindsay, ’27, reported that Styers met with Wellness & Life Design Case Manager Joshua Guthrie, ’09, to discuss the food insecurity survey, what his office currently does to address the issue and what information will be presented to the Student Enrichment Committee later in the month. Additionally, Styers and Lindsay said the Student Life Survey had reached 150 responses.
Attorney General Anna Kohler, ’26, announced that the ASG presidential debate will be held on Thursday, March 26, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Shafer Auditorium in the Henderson Campus Center. Kohler also proposed that voting for the general election should be amended from its original timeline of March 27 to March 29 to instead take place from March 26 to April 2. The proposal was motioned by Mary Evans ’27, seconded by Daniel Servey ’29, and approved unanimously.
Chief of Staff Kenzie Hughes, ’26, reported that the Academic Standards and Awards Committee is discussing reorganizing when classes occur during the school day to establish a common open block of time not occupied by classes, with the intention of enabling club activity on campus, and is looking for feedback on the concept.
Class Reports
Class of 2026 President Sydni Junker reported that the class representatives are continuing to plan Senior Week.
Class of 2027 President Kirandeep Khroud reported wellness kit assembly, a confirmed Grounds for Change open tab to occur soon and continued Junior Appreciation Week planning.
Class of 2028 President George Asante reported that the class representatives met with Second-Year Class Dean and Director of Transfer Advising Amy Stearns to discuss plans for Declaration Day, which will take place on April 6.
Class of 2029 President Niki Hineman reported that the class chose April 17 as the date to host a mocktails event, which is still in the planning stages.
Executive Reports
Vice President Douglas Malcolm, ’26, said that he will be meeting with an alum about encouraging political culture on campus.
President Chezka Quinola, ’27, reported that she met with Associate Dean of Student Life Gretchen Beck about installing a TV in Grounds For Change that is similar to the one in McKinley’s Food Court. Additionally, Quinola said she met with Director of Facilities Joseph Michael to discuss the frisbee golf course concept. The cost is estimated to be between $40,000 and $45,000, and she said a trustee of the college has expressed interest in providing partial funding.
New Business
The first round of voting for Clean Slate Gators, represented by President Aicha Foster, ’29, and Vice President Gary Murray, ’26, passed its first round of voting with one abstention and none opposed. Clean Slate Gators is an Allegheny offshoot of Crawford County Clean Slate, a nonprofit that helps formerly incarcerated individuals with sealing and expunging criminal record sealings and seeking pardons from the governor. It has been operating on Allegheny’s campus since the beginning of this academic year, but it is not yet recognized by ASG.
The Conceptual Research Club, represented by President Nyahnna Collins, ’29, also passed its first round of voting. Collins described the club as a collaboration group for extracurricular study. It received a unanimous vote of approval.
ASG’s next GA will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, in room 301/302 of the campus center.
