Brian Saltsman, assistant professor of psychology, and Sonya Barnes-Saltsman held an impromptu wedding in Ford Chapel on Thursday Feb. 14, 2013.
Pastor Jane Ellen Nickell presided over the ceremony which was attended by Sonya’s parents, Betty and Bill Barnes who came in from Cleveland, and Brian’s mother Barbara Saltsman from Chittenango, NY.
The couple exchanged vows and rings then clasped their hands in the shape of an infinity sign, and as the newlyweds exited the church, Wagner’s traditional “Here Comes the Bride” played from an iPhone.
Sonya said she had never had a boyfriend on Valentine’s Day before. Now she has a husband and a wedding anniversary to celebrate on Feb. 14.
Despite their difficulties in finding a venue, the couple did not want to wait any longer to tie the knot.
“Why wait?” Sonya said. “We just wanted to be married now.”

It’s good to see a couple that values marriage more than the wedding. I wish them the best!
