The college’s bulk subscription of the Meadville Tribune expired at the close of last school year, and the school has not extended it or communicated interest in a renewal, according to Devon Stout, the circulation director at the Tribune.
Stout has been working at the Tribune for over a decade and says that he has seen daily circulation shrink.
When Stout arrived at the Tribune, circulation was nearing 16,000 daily. Today, it hovers around 11,500.
This noticeable decrease is not uncommon in print journalism. Some newspapers have moved their entire product online.
Stout believes that a smaller, more geographically centered paper like the Tribune has a better fighting chance in the industry over larger papers with a more complex business model.
