Another week, another fit check. With spring upon us, I was curious once more to see the outfits that Allegheny students had to offer. Are students staying warm or risking it all for the fit?
While sitting in the Henderson Campus Center, I saw shorts, track suits, skirts and leggings. There was a lot of variety.
With the weather being so irregular recently and mid-semester schedules keeping everyone busy, it was hard to find people not in a rush during my tabling — but I got four peers to show off their outfits to my camera, all of which were very different from each other.
Javier Jones, ’26, wore a rich green graphic T-shirt with an eye-catching design. He styled the shirt with a pair of simple black sweatpants and white shoes, tying the entire outfit together. Jones’s outfit was simple but enjoyable. I have never seen a shirt with a graphic as striking and dramatic as his. The outfit was completely justifiable for the weather that day; the T-shirt to keep cool and stylish, the sweat pants to keep warm and comfy and the white shoes to tie in the white graphic on Jones’ shirt. I rate Jones’ outfit a four or five out of five stars. I liked the style and the shirt especially, but I wish there was more going on — some jewelry, maybe? Or even a hat. But overall, his style was very neat and savvy.
I wore a simple outfit the day of my tabling, which I would rate three or four out of five stars. I had work at the local preschool, so I was dressed in my “teacher fit.” My upper half was adorned with a white turtleneck layered with a white vest that had a lemon design on it. My lower half had a deep blue jean skirt and a brown belt paired with rich brown boots. Given the weather and my work earlier in the day, I think I dressed appropriately.
“Hailey’s outfit is dope, cool, amazing, and I would love for her to be my teacher,” Devika Desai, ’26, told me.
Oliver Schneider, ’27, had a similarly positive review.
“I rate it a five out of five,” Schneider said. “I just think it looks very chic and very chill. It looks like you had a good time at work.”
Jaidyn Yarber, ’27, also showed his outfit, which consisted of a large, comfy mossy oak-patterned hoodie, headphones that matched his hoodie, a white T-shirt, gray sweatpants and black loafers. Yarber rated his outfit a three out of five stars. I think for a simple, comfortable outfit, this rating is perfectly fine. At the end of the day, style is subjective, and everyone varies. Yarber’s three could be someone else’s five; that’s the neat thing about style.
Ananya Yendluri, ’26, another beautiful model of style on campus, wore a cute, simple and stylish beginning-of-spring outfit that consisted of a beige sweater with a matching tank top and deep blue jeans. Yendluri’s gold headband with her gold earrings was a very satisfying detail I appreciated. The gold went nicely with the beige and added a little bit of brightness to the outfit.
“In the best way — she looks like a sheep,” Olivia Alexander, ’26, a friend of Yendluri’s, said about her outfit.
I agree! A super cute sheep.
The last outfit I got the pleasure of seeing and sharing was worn by Rhea Brown, ’29. Brown caught my eye immediately in the campus center because she was wearing my favorite colour. But she was walking away, so you know what I did? Chased her down. I had to grab the chance and capture her style as soon as I could.
Brown wore an all-purple outfit. The purple shirt, skirt and socks were all tied together with her jean jacket.
“It’s so cute,” Nyomi Longhi, ’29, said about Brown’s outfit. “Knowing this person, she always wears very wonderful, whimsical outfits, and I think it’s very admirable and cute.”
Maggie Dineen, ’27, agreed.
“I liked it a lot,” Dineen said. “I give it a five out of five — giving FNAF (Five Nights at Freddy’s) purple guy. It’s awesome.”
Something I feel I continue to learn is how versatile we humans are. We are all so very different. Make sure you internalize that! Use it. Style yourself in different ways, try new things. Who knows, maybe your outfit will inspire someone else. The models I had this week were all great visuals for this lesson. So many different items of clothing are used in various ways. And no one was the same as anyone else, so wear that funky shirt or crazy pants — and own it!
