– A majority of the newspaper is dedicated to discussing opinions on the March 28th incident at Three Mile Island, a nuclear power plant near Harrisburg, where their Unit 2 reactor had a nuclear meltdown. Students discuss in editorials the safety of nuclear reactors, their necessity in today’s time, and what precautions need to be taken during their operation.

– The college received a $15,000 grant from Penelec/GPU to do research into acid rain in Northwestern Pennsylvania. The grant was given specifically to Scott Wissinger, assistant professor of biology and environmental science at the time. Wissinger stayed at Allegheny College until his 2018 retirement. He passed away the following year.

April 5, 2001
