Volleyball drops heartbreaker in Bethany

After earning a home playoff win over Grove City, the Gators season concluded Nov. 9 by falling to Bethany 3-0

The Allegheny women’s volleyball team took advantage of their home court playoff duel versus the Grove City Wolverines on Tuesday, Nov. 7, defeating their conference foe 3-1 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference playoffs quarterfinal round.

The Gators got out to a quick 2-0 set advantage to put themselves in a favorable position. From the get-go the Gators looked ready for postseason volleyball, scoring the first five points of the match including a pair of aces from Izzy Gray, ’26. The Allegheny lead grew to as much as 10 before closing out set one with a 25-18 victory.

In set two the Gators fell behind early but battled back to gain a slight 10-8 advantage. Once having the lead they did not lose it and won by a score of 25-21.

Allegheny came out with a vengeance after dropping the third set, and in their fourth go-around, the Gators jumped on the Wolverines to get ahead 6-3. They then went on a 9-0 run to burst the game open and closed it out by winning 25-19, sealing the match victory.

Advancing into the semifinal round versus Bethany, the Gators had a tall task ahead of them. The defending PAC champions took down Allegheny during the regular season 3-1, and they came into this year’s playoff race as the No. 1 seed.

The Gators kept it close but were ultimately swept, putting an end to their season. The Bison won the sets 25-22, 25-21, 25-23.

Allegheny ended their season with 22 wins, their highest mark since 2000. With only two seniors graduating, the future is bright with a load of talent returning to the court for next season.
