Results of the class of 2014 senate election have been posted, naming ten new members to Allegheny Student Government.
After two days of voting, the following freshmen were named as the class of 2014’s senators:
- Nancy Chen
- Jennifer Conklin
- Sydney Cordell
- Michael Haas
- Benedict Ho
- Ali Malik
- Gillian McGuire
- Cody Miller
- Lauren Moore
- Melissa Robertson
The election was notable for its high percentage of voter participation.
Out of the 599 members of the class of 2014, at least 355 voted, just under sixty percent.
“That’s huge,” said Shane Downing, president of ASG. “We never really see numbers like that.”
Jamie Havens, the vice president of ASG, reiterated that point.
“I think this is a huge testament to their willingness to become a part of our campus community,” Havens said. “I’m very much looking forward to working with the class of 2014.”
The incoming senators are equally enthusiastic as the class that voted for them.
“Its quite an honor to have been selected by my peers to represent them,” said Jennifer Conklin, one of the newly-elected senators. “I am not entirely sure that it has totally set in yet but I am definitely looking forward to taking on the challenge of representing the class of 2014 in the best way possible.”
“It is truly an honor to be one of the ten chosen by my class,” said Benedict Ho, another of the new senators. “I look forward to working with my peers in setting the tone for the next four years.”
