Allegheny Student Government met on April 1 to discuss their yearly major project, finalize two new club’s recognition and report the budget.
General Assembly opened with discussion on several proposed projects to send off the cabinet’s year. Last year’s approved project proposal was the construction of an outdoor classroom and pavilion space on the former site of of Caflisch Hall. While this project was significantly delayed by outside factors, $154,000 has been allocated for the plan. This year’s proposals, which will be voted on in a following General Assembly are as follows: the first is the construction of a new lamp post behind Crawford Hall, on the far side of the parking lot in order to illuminate the lot. This project would cost an estimated $22,000 and is expected to be completed before students return for the fall semester. The second project is a facelift of the third floor of the Campus Center, specifically the area in front of 301/302 and the ASG offices. This project would cost approximately $4,500 and be completed by the end of the summer.
New ASG Senator Brennen McWright was sworn in for the class of 2027.
Cabinet Reports
Director of Finance Dominic Juliana, ’26, reported the weekly expenses. Total expenses reported for the week were $21,673.54, all from the general fund. The top expenditure this week was from the African Student Association, with $8,000 in total spending, $3,500 for a “Taste of Africa” event and $4,500 for an unexplained expenditure. The second highest expenditure was from the Outing Club, totaling $2,655.35.
Chief of Staff Brayden Devinney, ’26, reported several new items. ASG has ordered three new office chairs, two new desk lamps and throw pillows for their office. Rosters were also updated to reflect membership and committee assignments.
Class Reports
The Class of 2025 reported that the budget for Senior Week is being finalized, and last week’s Mario Kart event went well.
Iris Styers reported for the class of 2026 that the class is focused on Junior Appreciation Week.
Liam Shields reported for the class of 2027 that they are planning for their final event, which is likely to take place in Grounds For Change.
George Asante reported for the class of 2028 that they are working on background projects.
Chief Executive Reports
Vice President Joe Leszczynski, ’26, reported the last day to turn in any finance requests will be April 20.
President Ella DeRose, ’27, reported increased turnout for elections this year. Voting will close this Friday, April 4, at 9 p.m.
Unfinished Business
ASG voted and approved the African Student Association and the Allegheny Film & TV club. Both votes were approved unanimously.
The next ASG meeting will be in rooms 301/302 of the Campus Center, where the 2025-26 presidential administration will hold its first General Assembly.
