The Allegheny Student Government heard from guest speaker Chief Information Officer Katrina Yeung about the recent launch of GatorHub at its General Assembly on Nov. 19.
Yeung communicated several key details regarding the new GatorHub interface. Students were polled last year on what they would like to see out of a successor to the MyAllegheny website, and the resulting opinion was “something Instagram-like,” according to Yeung. The new system will replace MyAllegheny, and primary differences will lie in the user interface.
The new system will utilize widgets and app-esque icons to open subsites, as well as include built-in community features called groups to enable notifications from organizations on campus to students outside of email.
Yeung said she regularly heard that email was “a frustration point,” so the new notification system should reduce organizational reliance on email for clubs on campus.
A new “Activity” tab will feed all notifications from groups the end-user has joined into a single feed in order to replicate an “Instagram-like death scroll,” according to Yeung.
Cabinet Reports
Director of Finance Dominic Juliana, ’26, reported that an older financial form erroneously supplanted the proper form in the budget request process with a link issue. Clubs with time-sensitive requests had not been impacted, and Juliana said other finance requests would be pushed to this Friday’s Finance Committee meeting.
The largest budget item approved this week was $590 to supply T-shirt decorating materials for the South Asian Student Society. Total approved budgetary expenses for the week were $1,395.74.
Director of Community Relations Hunter Goerman, ’25, gave the update that “Merry Meadville,” an event in downtown Meadville, would be occurring from 5 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 6. Allegheny College will be present with cookies and hot chocolate on the front porch of the Founders House, 908 Diamond Park.
Class Reports
Class of 2025 Senator Akari Brown reported that a Grounds for Change holiday event featuring festive hot chocolate drinks will be held Dec. 4.
Brown also said Senior Week planning has continued with the reception of a contract quote for custom T-shirt production. Two Meadville bars have also been contacted to coordinate a senior bar crawl.
Class of 2026 reported they will be hosting a hot chocolate bar with creative topping options Dec. 5 in the lobby of the Henderson Campus Center. Additionally, they reported that their planning with Marketing & Communications to purchase Junior Appreciation Week pins had progressed well, alongside coordination with Parkhurst for catering.
Class of 2027 President Liam Shields announced Thanksgiving thank you notes for the Parkhurst staff would be collected in the campus center lobby on Thursday, Nov. 21, and Friday, Nov. 22.
Class of 2028 President George Asante said he is continuing to coordinate with First Year Class Dean Aacha Gregg on a potential movie night in the future.
President’s Report
President Ella DeRose, ’27, said ASG’s mid-year report continues to be compiled, seeking one or two paragraphs of input from representatives on progress ASG made this year.
Dean for Student Life and ASG Advisor Trae Yeckley said the report is a good idea.
“I think it’s a good way to kind of gauge what we’ve been doing this semester,” Yeckley said in an interview after GA. “Usually we do an end-of-the-year report, but it’s nice to figure out where we are at the halfway point.”
Yeckley also said they believe this represents an improvement in ASG’s outreach efforts.
“I think that having the various classes that are meeting with their grade advisers, being able to relay that information out so it’s not just sitting with the classes, it’s a good way to show that ASG is invested and engaged,” Yeckley said. “And not just at the end of the year or around elections, but all year.”
ASG’s next General Assembly is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in room 301/302 of the campus center.
