Allegheny College announced on March 20 that Jennifer Winge, ’96, will be appointed as Vice President for Enrollment Management. In her new role, Winge will provide leadership for offices of administration, marketing, financial aid and communications.
Her innovation and skills will allow her to promote student retention to keep a high graduation rate and eventually fulfill the mission of Allegheny College. Winge will try to engage with alumni, high school counselors, prospective students and families and other community-based organizations as part of a strategic plan to help develop Allegheny as a brand, according to a college press release.
Seeking a diverse set of students from different backgrounds is an important step in carrying out the plan.
Developing a good understanding of Allegheny’s curriculum as well as the overall message of the college is what is going to help lead to student retention and success.
Winge has much experience in the field. She began working in enrollment at Allegheny in 1996, eventually serving as dean of enrollment before becoming vice president for enrollment at The College of Wooster in 2011. Aside from working at the college, she also attended Allegheny, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Education. Having a deeply rooted connection with Allegheny gives Winge a good understanding of what the overall message of the college entails.
“The values that Allegheny holds speak to me,” Winge said about her decision to apply for the role.
Winge also emphasized her excitement to start working with the enrollment department.
“I am eager to begin and spend time with the enrollment division, getting to know team members’ individual strengths and collective ideas,” Winge said. “I will also prioritize meeting with various campus partners to optimize collaborative efforts.”
She aims to utilize different perspectives to achieve the overall goal of the position.
Winge gave some insight into what her first steps will be after filling the position. Her past experiences with the college will help while implementing market research and techniques that she will use alongside her team.
“I’ll combine this new knowledge, my institutional history as an alumna and past employee, and my understanding of the complex market to work alongside colleagues to develop an enrollment and marketing strategy which aligns with the Allegheny Pathway,” Winge said. “We have a number of new initiatives that complement signature programs like the senior comp demonstrating that Allegheny is responding to a rapidly changing market. I’m excited to get started to strengthen existing relationships and cultivate new ones to build confidence in the Allegheny brand.”
