At the Allegheny Student Government’s General Assembly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 17, ASG members discussed several issues affecting students and club leaders and swore in a new senator for the class of 2026, Gary Murray. ASG currently has two open senatorial seats on the senior and freshman delegations, and ASG President Ella DeRose, ’27, encouraged all those interested to contact ASG. Emphasis from committee heads across status updates once again held a focus on club and organization cooperation in mutual events.
Finance Committee information
Co-Chair of the Finance Committee announced the intention to pursue a “pragmatic approach” to club funding, with two central ideas put forward: first to meet with as many clubs as possible in regards to working cooperatively on a budget and inventory management where applicable, and second, to establish a two-step warning system in regards to club overspending. Clubs which seek to overdraw their budgets as requested should be aware, according to the financial co-chair, that firstly they may be “admonished for careless spending” and on the second attempt to overdraw past their agreed budget, be cut off from requesting funding entirely. Student organization spending totaled $1,816.54 this past week, with the largest requests including $300 for the Edinboro Frisbee Disc Golf tournament fees and a matching budgetary item for the Outing Club.
Director of Student Affairs & Ad Hoc Dining Committee Formation
Senator Ben Keefer, ’27, announced progress had been made towards establishing a repeating meeting with Parkhurst — Allegheny’s new dining provider — to “address some issues and have conversations which need to be had.” ASG chartered a new committee designed to address student concerns and needs regarding dining.
The new committee seeks to highlight its expressed mission statements to “receive student feedback and suggestions on all aspects of dining at Allegheny College,” according to DeRose’s proposal. DeRose said the Dining Committee will meet once or twice a month, at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays starting next week and will be open to students. Once more information is available, DeRose said ASG will publish more information regarding the committee.
Senatorial Class of 2026
A Class of 2026 representative communicated an intention to hold an open mic night sometime in early to mid-October, a meeting with class deans regarding a Junior Appreciation Week to be held soon and a possible stated goal of increasing attendance at Allegheny’s sports events in the future.
Constituent Comment
During each General Assembly, ASG holds a Constituent Comment period, where any students can attend and voice their thoughts, ideas or complaints to ASG members. Reagan Grace Wheat, ’26, was the sole constituent commenter, suggesting “more people should come to these meetings.”
ASG’s next General Assembly is set for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sep. 24, in room 301/302 of the Henderson Campus Center.
